BEFORE COMING IN CANADA

Obtain your canadian visa

Obtaining a visa is a key step for international students who want to complete an internship in Canada.

This document is necessary for entering Canada and staying in the country legally throughout the internship. Without a visa, access to the Canadian job market is not possible, which can put the internship goals and the student's academic success at risk.

Here are the general steps involved in obtaining a Canadian visa for an internship in Canada:

Steps to Obtain a Work Visa for an Internship in Canada

Here are the general steps to apply for a Canadian visa for your internship:

1. Determine the type of visa

Determine the right type of work visa for your internship. Depending on your needs, you can apply for various types of visas.

2. Check your eligibility

You must verify if you meet the eligibility requirements for a work visa. These include age, education level, language proficiency in English or French, and relevant work experience.

3. Gather the required documents

You'll need to submit documents such as your passport, an internship agreement, international insurance, and proof of sufficient funds.

4. Submit your application

You can submit your work visa application online by creating your IRCC account. It is essential to fill out all sections carefully and upload all necessary documents.

Note: EIC handles the visa process for host companies on the employer’s side (see the section below "Visa Assistance for Companies").

5. Wait for the decision

The processing time may take several weeks (usually 4 to 8). You can monitor your application status via your IRCC account.

6. Fly to Canada

If your visa is approved, you’ll receive a letter of introduction to present at the Canadian border in order to obtain your work permit.

Note: The visa process can be complex and may vary depending on your citizenship and the type of internship. We recommend starting early and reaching out to our specialized team for assistance.
