The International Co-op Internship is a temporary work permit that allows students to complete an internship in Canada as part of their academic program.
This visa is part of the International Experience Canada (IEC) program, created by the Canadian government to promote international youth mobility.
By joining the EIC program, you can gain professional experience in Canada, develop your skills, and enrich your academic path in a multicultural environment.

The International Co-op Internship is intended for students enrolled in a post-secondary institution whose program requires a mandatory internship abroad. This permit, part of the International Experience Canada (IEC) program, allows students to complete an internship in Canada directly related to their field of study.
Valid for up to 12 months, this student work permit is limited to the internship duration indicated in the agreement and requires students to leave Canada at the end of their stay. It is designed for students in schools, universities, or vocational programs who wish to gain concrete international experience.
Check your eligibility through the official Government of Canada questionnaire, or consult the complete IRCC guide. Need help? Contact our EIC team.

The opening period for the pools of the International Experience Canada program generally begins in January and ends in October. These dates may vary depending on the number of available spots and how the Canadian government manages the quotas.
Applicants to the International Co-op Internship category enter a candidate pool and must wait to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for a work permit. On average, one round of invitations is held each week.
Once the invitation is received, you can submit your official application on the International Experience Canada website. Processing times vary, but they are generally 4 to 8 weeks after submitting a complete application.
To maximize your chances, it is recommended to create your profile as soon as your offer and internship agreement are ready. This will allow you to enter the pool quickly and be eligible for the first rounds of invitations.
Track quota updates in real time on the official International Experience Canada website.
